How do I turn off the water supply to my house?

If you’re on tank water, you’ll need to shut off the stopcock or gate valve at the tank. Mains water, on the other hand, is fed to your home in underground pipes. These pipes run parallel to the road. Smaller pipes then feed the water through mains shut-off valves to each of our homes. This valve will be located near the front of your property.
