About
Good Shepherd Village is a 42 unit Retirement Village Complex providing the elderly Mackay community with a trusted retirement community. So trusted in fact that Good Shepherd Lodge is celebrating 42 years this year in East Mackay. This complex is owned by Good Shepherd Lodge Ltd Trustee for Good Shepherd Lodge Charitable Trust. Stage 1 was officially opened in 1987 and was the first Retirement Village to be built in Mackay. The second stage known as Brampton Villa's initially opened in 1997 with a further 4 units being completed in December 2000. In 2011, 10 units were refurnished in Lindeman Lodge. They are very popular, being co-located within Good Shepherd Lodge Residential Aged Care complex. For this reason alone, the Good Shepherd Village can offer more services to its residents than the average retirement village. The Good Shepherd Village consists of 16 two bedroom units and 6 one bedroom units which are strategically placed to maximise the privacy of residents, and take advantage of the prevailing breezes. Brampton Villa's consist of 13 two bedroom units with private courtyards. Lindeman Lodge consists of 10 units - 7 two bedroom units with private courtyards and 3 one bedroom units. Residents are encouraged to maintain their community affiliations. They are more than welcome to join in any of the wide range of activities offered at the lodge. Not only do they find this entertaining but it also provides the opportunity for them to meet people and make new acquaintances. It is our aim that residents find a happy companionship where they can enjoy independence and privacy within a community lifestyle. Good Shepherd Lodge Residential Aged Care and Nursing Home offers supported living to family members who are unable to live independently. Good Shepherd Lodge is a 169 bed facility situated on the east side of Mackay in a residential area and is surrounded by beautiful well maintained grounds and gardens. All areas of the Lodge have undergone extensive upgrade to present a welcoming and attractive environment. With on-site cafe, hairdresser, chapel, children's playground and Therapy Centre, residents have access to a full range of services in a friendly, homelike atmosphere. In addition there is a fully furnished self contained family room available for family/friends visiting from out of town, which can be booked at a nominal rate to allow loved ones to spend quality time at the facility. Good Shepherd Lodge prides itself in having above 40% of fully government supported residents who would otherwise be unable to afford high quality accommodation. With a total of 6 activity officers available Monday to Friday and part of the weekend, an extensive range of activities are on offer including Tai Chi, Movies, Art and Craft. Residents may access allied health professionals and services through the Therapy Centre. With 2 buses owned and operated by Good Shepherd Lodge, there are a variety of opportunities to attend functions and activities within the general community, some of which may incur a fee. We welcome residents bringing with them items such as quilts, photo's, or a favourite chair to personalise their new home. With a reputation for excellence in care for over 42 years, Good Shepherd Lodge has recently completed a major refurbishment of 2 areas of its large complex, to accommodate residents requiring dementia specific care in a fully secure environment. With tactile walls, gardens, pets, and activity rooms for craft, a homely environment has been created with most rooms accessing a central courtyard and extensive secure gardens. All residents in care enjoy the privacy of their own ensuited room with each wing having their own lounge. An impressive mall with Cafe, Children's Playground, Hairdresser, Function Rooms, Chapel and Therapy Centre, it is a great all weather walking area, with seating along the way to catch up with passers-by or meet for a cup of tea or coffee in the light filled atrium. There is a great range of activities provided by the Diversional Therapists including Sitting Dance, Music Therapy, Movies, Bingo, Aromatherapy and Jewellery Making to name a few. The men are not forgotten either with specific outings planned and Good Shepherd's 2 buses at the ready to take them to a cricket match or a club for lunch. Staff strive to ensure that all our residents find Good Shepherd Lodge a place of happy companionship where security, independence and privacy within a community lifestyle can be enjoyed. Personal space is important and our aim is to ensure that residents feel at home and most importantly they are encouraged to continue being independent and enjoy having family and friends visit in our relaxed and beautiful environment. Our Retirement Living Village consisting of 42 units is positioned in landscaped grounds offering secure, independent living options for those looking for the experience of private living in a community atmosphere. With access to 24 hour emergency call system in every unit and onsite Cafe, Hairdresser, Chapel and Therapy Centre, village residents can continue to enjoy the pursuits that interest them in the wider community and also join in the many activities and benefits on site. CARE SUITES Good Shepherd Lodge has a number of wings in the Care Facility to accommodate 169 Care Residents. 103 - Permanent Care Places 60 - Dementia Specific (Memory Care Unit) 6 - Respite Places Residents in our care suites are encouraged to continue being independent and enjoy having family and friends visit in our relaxed and beautiful environment. Residents are encouraged to furnish their rooms with their own personal touch to ensure a comfortable, familiar environment - secure in the knowledge of 24 hour high quality care by qualified dedicated staff. Most units overlook beautiful gardens and courtyards, with wide open spaces. Good Shepherd Lodge provides a number of living options, specifically designed to help maintain your independence for longer. Good Shepherd lodge was recently nominated in the Master Builder Awards for the new Memory Care Unit of Bailey House by Woollam Constructions. INDEPENDENT LIVING At Good Shepherd Lodge we have 42 Independent Living Units available. 22 Good Shepherd Village Units, Evans Street, Mackay. 13 Brampton Villa Units, McIntyre Street, Mackay. 7 Lindeman Lodge Units, Christie Street, Mackay. Good Shepherd Lodge offers a number of options living independently which are designed to help and maintain your independence for longer. From cleaning and laundry needs, to medical administration and personal care, we welcome you to choose from a range of services that suit your lifestyle. In pleasant surrounds, these independent living options allow you to enjoy supported hospitality whilst maintaining independence in a safe, secure, and caring village community. 24 hour emergency assistance available by a Registered Nurse, you are assured of peace of mind if experiencing any medical incident or fall. SB WRIGHT THERAPY CENTRE The Good Shepherd Lodge Day Therapy Centre was officially opened on 28th September, 1985, and from the 1st July, 2009, changed its name to SB Wright Therapy Centre. The aim of the SBWTC program is to provide a wide range of Therapy and Services to Frail Aged people living in the community. Eligible persons from the community over the age of 65 years who require therapeutic intervention to maintain or recover a level of independence which allow them to remain in their own homes. Clients may be referred to SB Wright Therapy Centre through a range of mechanisms. - MY AGED CARE - GENERAL PRACTITIONERS - AGED CARE ASSESSMENT TEAMS - SOCIAL WORKERS - HOSPITALS - COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS - SELF REFERRAL Where appropriate, clients should have a written referral. Hours of Service are Monday to Friday 8.00am to 4.00pm. For more Information or to book an appointment please call direct on 49 632972 SECURE DEMENTIA CARE Good Shepherd Lodge has been providing specialized dementia care, both in a specific secure unit as well as within the general residential care facility since its inception and has recently completed refurbishment of two "houses" especially designed to accommodate residents requiring dementia specific care in a fully secure environment. We believe that for a large proportion of ageing residents some form of dementia is quite common. Most are able to be cared for within the general high and low care environment with only minimal interventions required, which are "tailored" to suit the individual. Some, however will be required to have more specific care plans developed, where specialized staff, including diversional therapists, nursing and other allied health staff conduct activities and programs that are dementia specific. All areas have been designed to be dementia friendly, with tactile walls, gardens, pets, and activity rooms for craft. A homely environment has been the aim with all single, ensuited rooms accessing a central courtyard and extensive secure gardens. All rooms are specifically designed to incorporate modern technology to monitor residents without invading their privacy. Families are encouraged to visit and participate in activities and qualified staff are on hand to support them in coming to terms with a loved one's condition and behaviours. Residents are encouraged to participate in appropriate general activities such as chapel, singing, sitting dance, and bingo and where necessary are accompanied by staff from their area to avoid unnecessary confusion. Bus outings are provided weekly as all residents enjoy getting out and about within various areas of the community. WAVES HAIR SALON Contact Reception to make an appointment today. Maree is the best masseuse I've ever used and I can't recommend her more highly. The test is always if I recommend her to my family and friends and the answer is yes, I've recommended her to anyone who'll listen. She also allows you to use your private health care, unlike some other massage clinics. Give her a shot. You've got nothing to lose except some pain.
Thank you very much for your kind review. It has been my pleasure working with you over the years and assisting you with your massage needs.

About
Julie Williams is the owner of the Walkerston Natural Therapies Centre, which she has been operating since 1998. Julie holds relevant qualifications in bowen therapy, remedial massage, Tuina (Chinese body therapies), reiki, orion healing, aromatherapy, reflexology, dry needling and is also an instructor in natural therapy practices. Prior to moving to Walkerston in 1995, Julie worked as a healthcare worker in the outback Northern Territory before moving to Darwin to teach natural therapies and beauty therapy. In 2006 Julie took extended leave from her business and sailed the Australian coast from east to west. Following this, Julie moved to the Philippines and set up a clinic in a poverty-stricken area, teaching local people and healthcare workers bowen therapy for medical emergencies. In 2010 Julie returned to the clinic in Walkerston where she continues to work as a practitioner. In 2011 Julie taught bowen therapy in the Solomon Islands improving life and giving hope to those less fortunate. Julie continues to donate her time to developing countries teaching Bowen Therapy for medical purposes. Bowtech is a gentle form of bodywork in which very subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue send messages deep into the body, retrieving cellular memory of a preferred relaxed way of wellbeing. Results can be remarkable, even from the first session; often only a few sessions are needed to correct the presenting problem. There are frequent but very essential pauses throughout the session that allow the body time to respond and begin the healing process. The practitioner can target a specific problem or address the body as a whole SCENAR therapy is unique because it interactively locates, measures and prompts problem areas in the body (active points) through the skin to help relieve pain and restore function, without the need for diagnosis.
