Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre (GYRACC) is a new cross-cultural enterprise in the Katherine Region. GYRACC evolved out of the desire of the people of Katherine to have a contemporary meeting place in which to celebrate, learn, create and share culture. Katherine is a meeting place for people from around the region, which covers approximately 400,000 square kilometres and consists of largely of pastoral properties and Indigenous communities. The Katherine community offers a unique mix of cultures with local and rural influences. Indigenous people make up more than 30% of the population. The Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre has been in development for over 12 years to fill a creative infrastructure need for the Katherine region. Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre is uniquely positioned to provide arts development, presentation and educational opportunities to all sectors of the Katherine community and the wider region. It aims to showcase the cultural diversity and artistic richness of the region. Underpinned by the �two way' learning philosophy it aspires to become a �model for reconciliation' in the community through the presentation of exhibitions and performances of Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural expression together.
