We are an Australian based wholesaler of African Bolga Baskets, which get their name from the town, Bolgatanga, where they are made. We work directly with the local Ghanaian weavers and co-operatives in Bolgatanga and surrounding villages in the Upper East Region of Ghana to produce these beautiful and practical handmade baskets. The baskets are woven from elephant grass, which grows abundantly in this region of sub-Saharan Africa. The tough nature of the elephant grass, together with the skilful weaving technique of the artisans, passed from generation to generation, makes these individually woven baskets strong, durable and flexible. The handles of the baskets are covered with cured leather for reinforcement and style. Goat leather is the most preferred choice as goats are the main source of protein for many locals. They honour the animal by using all parts so nothing goes to waste. At Afropacific, we say "trade not aid." Emancipation comes from self-sufficiency, independence and a sense of self-worth. We value trading with the people of the Upper East Region of Ghana. A crazy, colourful and fantastically-fey exhibition of creatures and characters that celebrate the vibrant melting-pot of world culture. Legends and stories, from the Dawn of Time and into the Near-Future, abound in this unique display of individual artworks. We individually hand sculpt the basic character and counterweights (head, face, hands and feet) from raku clays fired to stoneware temperature; everything else is from found objects and up-cycled materials. As a result, we keep our prices low enough to offset the time and labour involved, charging little to nothing for the 'art' and so selling direct to the public at an accessible wholesale cost. Our marionettes are very easy to use. They are designed to have excellent movement and can be used by absolutely anybody from the age of 4 up! Dance them to your music, tell stories from inside you, display them as art or just freak out your friends� Life is a little less vibrant without an interactive effigy to share it! The diverse ecology of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, is my inspiration to create mainly mixed medium expressionistic work using mark-making as a means of conveying the sensitivity of the work. My career has been in Marketing and Advertising working Internationally. After emigrating to Australia 16 years ago whilst working as a Business Consultant I studied Visual Art part-time. After several years of formal studies my career evolved into a full time occupation - furthering studies in ceramics, print-making and life drawing.
