The humble journey of Ali Baba Kebabs began in 1979 when our first store in Woden shopping Centre Canberra, came to life. The young brothers – Mick and Karl Marjan were the talk of the town when they introduced the authentic flavours of the middle east to the Aussie way of life in the heart of Canberra. Locals lined up waiting for a table when the store launched to get a taste of the delicious “Shawarma”. The store was so busy that the community would share tables with random people while enjoying their meal. Our family-owned business is named after Baba (which means father) and Ali (son of Mick who was born at the time of the opening) who still works in the business alongside even more family members helping bring our passion to our customers across the country. The logo symbol of the genie was inspired by the Arabian folklore tale of ‘Ali Baba and the 40 thieves’. Basically, a character regarded as middle eastern Robin Hood. This symbol quickly became a recognised symbol of the freshly rolled kebabs sealed in that memorable red bag. 40 years later that inspiration can still be seen in our brand and our well-known product can be found across the country in over 28 stores. The authentic middle eastern flavours are now our identity in the community. Founders Mick & Karl are extremely passionate about every single detail of the Ali Baba product. When it comes to quality there is simply no compromise. Enriched with nutrients, bursting with protein and rich in dietary fibre, our food delivers a great taste & using only the freshest of ingredients. The Blue Olive, est 1997. Located in the beautiful Heritage Melbourne Building, West Row, Canberra. Chunky New York style sandwiches, fresh salads, giant burgers and delicious seasonal mains. We use only the best local bread (Flute Bakery) for our sandwiches and they are available on gluten free bread also. We have an excellent range of sweet treats, including heaps of gluten free numbers. Our coffee is small batch roasted and we use only premium quality local milk. You should try it, it’s delicious. Discovery Café opened in 2014 and offers CSIRO staff and guests delicious food and exceptional coffee with a touch of personality. Situated in the Discovery Centre on the base of Black Mountain opposite ANU, it is a great place to relax and enjoy the glasshouse like feel of the building with views across Acton and up to Mount Ainslie. Open for breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30am and serving lunch from 11am to 2pm there are options to suit everyone. From our gourmet breakfast and lunch menus to hot dishes in the bain marie and of course options for those on the run. Discovery Café also provides CATERING for conferences, meetings and events on the CSIRO Black Mountain site.

Hey there and welcome. We’re Tree Eighty3. We’re into coffee and we’re into food. We’re into the whole “old school new” thing. You’re into those things too? Perfect! Come get to know us. We’re all about quality and doing things our way, which is why we grow a lot of our own stuff on our organic farm in Gundaroo. We’ve got chickens and bees working with us too to make sure the things we serve at Tree Eighty3 are local, organic and free range. Ralph, the man behind Tree Eighty3, has been serving his food to Canberran's since 1983, originally from a food van called Ralph’s, where he began selling his famous roast pork. In the 90s he moved the van to a permanent location – the Yum Yum Tree in Bailey’s Arcade in the City. With the development of the farm in Gundaroo and a revamp of the café, Tree Eighty3 was born. Come take a seat in our café – sit by our hanging herb garden wall and on furniture made from recycled old sleepers. Check out the mouth-watering Pork Bar or get creative browsing through our sandwich bar for basically any sandwich you can think up. You’re into coffee right? Try a cup of 5 Senses - a direct trade specialty coffee that is roasted to order in Melbourne. And if you’re into Saturday mornings, so are we! We do breakfast from 9 til 12. Drop in for a visit and we’ll show you what we’re all about.
