I find myself waking up daily amazed that I get to do this as my career. When I’m not travelling around filming weddings I adore spending time outdoors riding motorcycles, hiking and camping on the South Coast or sitting around the fire pit at home with our kids under the stars. Life really does throw you curveballs sometimes. I found myself quitting my 9-5 grind in the hope of finding greater fulfilment in life. Growing up my family and I moved around and travelled frequently, allowing me to observe the world through a camera from an early age. This love for documentation continued as I grew older, studying film at the University of Wollongong. I am now based in Wollongong, however this line of work finds me in many different places. My Name is Tom Coburn, I reside on the south coast of NSW, Australia. Growing up next to the ocean I developed a passion for surfing early, and through that, surf film making and photography. I started documenting the characters and intricacies of the ocean from a young age, and continue to do so. I never set out to become anything in particular, only to live creatively and push the scope of my experience for adventure. But when a wedding photographer friend asked me to come along and shoot the greatest adventure in most anyone’s life, I knew I had found my niche. I see life in angles, in lines of perspective, a slight turn of the head, the blink of an eye, subtle glimpses of magic other folk might pass by. Cameras help me translate, interpret and understand what I see. To me, filmmaking is not a service, its an art form. I like to think of your booking as a commission for an artwork, that you can view and enjoy for the rest of your days. I find satisfaction in capturing and documenting one of the most important days of your life in the way that I see it. Every wedding is a memorable experience for me. On the day, there is no team of 4 or 5 crew setting up tripods and cranes all over and causing a distraction, it is just me, subtly capturing what I see, when I see it. Life on the road is something I was raised to embrace, I am happy to travel whatever distance it may be to be there on your day.

Originally from the Far South Coast of NSW, I now reside in Wollongong with my dog Hazel. You’ll often find me in the water having a surf or diving and fishing. I was first drawn to photography and videography through my love of the ocean, documenting its many moods and those that ride her. This led me to attended university, arming myself with the knowledge to translate emotions through sound and image, my camera allowing me to interpret what I see, fascinated by intricate details that are so often overlooked. My approach to wedding cinematography is to document your day in a fun, non-obtrusive way. I aim to capture authentic moments to create a gateway back to how you felt in that moment. By shooting in a handheld, cinematic style, I can tell your story in the most intimate way, as though you are right there with me.
