James O’Connor is a videographer/photographer who specialises in Documentary, Music and Events. James launched James Patrick Photographer in 2013 as a freelance photographer from a marketing, account service background and a keen eye for a captivating picture. Over the years he has pivoted to focus on video – producing award winning documentaries, music videos, concert and festival content. James’ work has been used on billboards, ABC TV, TVC, print and POS to launch a new product globally. His work has taken him around Australia and Europe.

Originally from the Far South Coast of NSW, I now reside in Wollongong with my dog Hazel. You’ll often find me in the water having a surf or diving and fishing. I was first drawn to photography and videography through my love of the ocean, documenting its many moods and those that ride her. This led me to attended university, arming myself with the knowledge to translate emotions through sound and image, my camera allowing me to interpret what I see, fascinated by intricate details that are so often overlooked. My approach to wedding cinematography is to document your day in a fun, non-obtrusive way. I aim to capture authentic moments to create a gateway back to how you felt in that moment. By shooting in a handheld, cinematic style, I can tell your story in the most intimate way, as though you are right there with me. For me, cinematography isn't just my job, but also my passion and hobby. I want to produce work that makes you feel something.

I’m sure there’s a good chance you are here because you want me to capture your wedding and you deserve to know a little bit about the person behind the camera. I find myself waking up daily amazed that I get to do this as my career. When I’m not travelling around filming weddings I adore spending time outdoors riding motorcycles, hiking and camping on the South Coast or sitting around the fire pit at home with our kids under the stars. Life really does throw you curveballs sometimes. I found myself quitting my 9-5 grind in the hope of finding greater fulfilment in life. I never could have dreamed my passion for cinematography and editing would completely change my outlook on life and my future. Since then I’ve connected with so many amazing people and crafted for them something that I believe will follow them for the rest of their lives and stand the test of time.
