A year ago, Cameron came to us for his 40+ hours of RAAus Instructor training, with the aim of setting up his own flight school. Cam is very determined and always finds a way to achieve all his goals, including building a new type of plane and raising money for RFDS by setting a record for the highest number of take offs and landings in one day. Each fortnight he commuted to Caloundra for training and then returned to teach for 75 hrs until he was eligible to be a SNR instructor. This month he opened his own school in Chinchilla. After dreaming about it for a while, 52 year old Mitsu from Japan, researched places to train to become a pilot and chose our flight school in Australia for the first few stages of his journey. He quit his automotive career, organised accommodation here and began training with us fulltime around four weeks ago. He passed all his exams and this morning passed his RPC flight test with me. They learn how to read maps, identify landmarks from above, plan their fuel requirements, how to interpret complex weather reports, plan a backup aerodrome if they need to divert for any reason, and to work out where they are if they get lost. Heath had his first lesson with us today, and learnt how to fuel the plane, test the fuel and go the preflight inspection. He is a FIFO worker and will be able to watch the briefing videos and read the theory books after hours while away on the work site, to refresh his memory about procedures and get ready for his exams.
