The Chocolate Cottage Café began in April 1997 from lifelong dreams of Kaye wanting to start a chocolate shop and teahouse and husband Colin owning his own restaurant. Our idea was to create a haven from the stresses of the outside world, somewhere to immerse yourself in. The restored 1877 original Highfields school house was the perfect place for our plans. From humble beginnings, we have literally grown with passion and hard work, producing all the chocolates in-house. The cafe now seats 230 and serves meals 6 days per week from 8.00am to 4pm. Over the years six other cottage businesses have been set up to add to the many things to explore. A destination with an amazing experience awaits you. Situated on a grassy acreage overlooking unsurpassed views of the Toowoomba Range, the cafe has plenty of room for the family with shaded outdoor seating and warm indoor dining around a fireplace throughout winter. The handpainted chairs, colourful décor and quirky giftware provides a perfect environment to indulge in our handmade chocolates, award winning cuisine and Lavazza coffee.

In February 2015, Monkey Business Catering was launched. We started with a garage to commercial kitchen conversion, a handful of second hand equipment and $10,000 cash. My stash of domestic equipment was even sacrificed to the cause! For the first two years, I worked full time as the manager at Monkey Business Catering and part time as a business trainer for Aurora Training Institute. It was a crazy, intense period. The 2020 COVID shutdown from March to September was another testing time. We saw a complete cancellation on bookings within the first two weeks of the shutdown being announced. So we grieved for a month and then made a plan for business development – converting our lean start-up systems into ones that would work well for us for the next 10 year (of those my favourite was going from paper recipe cards to digitised recipes viewed on iPads). Knowing that our business needed diversification and change to survive the strange post-COVID economic times, we purchased iCooked (a frozen ready to eat meal business) in May 2021, employed a Head Chef (the wonderful Terri), had Kristina come to work in the business full-time and moved from our converted garage kitchen into a 260 square metre warehouse in Harlaxton. The journey has been varied and challenging with many joys but also unavoidable and often heart-breaking moments. God has been a constant through them all.

The popular Extraordinary Joe Cafe was put up for sale in May 2018. It had been operating in Newtown Toowoomba for several years and was a favourite with many local coffee drinkers. It was only a matter of days later that a regular customer, Brett, heard the news over his order of poached eggs on sourdough, and immediately said “I’ll buy it. A hundred times I’ve said that I like it so much that I want to buy it”. Before Brett could talk to the owners of Extraordinary Joe’s Cafe one of the workers, Danielle, said “Would you like to be co-owners?”. The rest, as they say, is history. The same staff, the same great coffee, the same goddess of food in the kitchen (Lou), we kept all of the wonderful ingredients of cafe success the same, but needed a new name. Flaming Good is owned by Tony and Danielle. Our journey began when we ran our family olive grove in South East Queensland. After struggling to make a living from the olive grove we started pizza nights and these quickly became a huge success. We found that overnight the wood-fired Cob oven would hold a perfect roasting temperature. Using the cooling oven to roast our own farm-raised pork and lamb we began creating delicious and succulent roasts, with a rich depth of flavour we hadn’t experienced for a long time. Fast forward several years and Flaming Good now caters for events and private functions all across Queensland from our Toowoomba base. We cater functions of 40 people up to 25,000 people at major events. We now have a wide range of wood and charcoal-fired ovens creating delicious food including pizzas, fresh platters, BBQ’s, traditional roast with all the trimmings and decadent desserts. Together with our amazing Kitchen Family of very friendly hard-working staff, our trailers travel across Queensland to birthdays, engagement parties, weddings, family functions and corporate events.
