By starting off with Swedish to relax the person and warm up the muscles, tightness and knotting (problem areas) can be found easier. When too strong a massage is used straight off, the muscles contract to protect themselves and the painful knots within. Once the muscles soften up (with the use of heat packs as well) more intense work can be done with less pain and bruising.
