Railway Friendly Bar is a Byron Bay restaurant and music venue. We have a wide selection of menu items including fresh local seafood and light snacks to go with something from the bar. There is a great little music venue, bar and restaurant - right on the old Railway Station in Byron Bay . It's the only pub in Australia to have featured live music seven nights a week, for over 30 years. The official name of the Railway Hotel in Byron Bay is "The Railway Friendly Bar" but the locals affectionately refer to it as "The Rails'. . .

First established in 1892, rebuilt in 1897 & 1936 after fires burnt the first two versions to the ground, the 1936 rebuild is the Great Northern you see today. The “front bar” is a perfect example of a proper, old Australian Hotel Bar, rich with character and great place to have a beer and watch some live sport. Not to mention the top-quality live music by the very best blues, rock & folk artists the Northern Rivers region has to offer. Several renovations through the years has given us the current layout, including the back room which was added in 1994.
