The Port Macquarie Historical Society's collection includes objects, artefacts, treasures, ephemera, photographs and documents on display in the Port Macquarie Historical Museum, in its archives and in storage. The collection is significant historically in regional NSW and Australia. It interprets important themes in local, State and Australian political and social history, including Aboriginal culture, European settlement, the penal colony, free settlement, local trades, services and industries, farming, the timber industry, domestic life, travel etc. It represents the people and culture that have shaped the history of Port Macquarie and Australia from settlement in 1821 through to the 1950s. It also provides representative examples of a number of themes, such as its upstairs house museum c1840 and arcade of shops and trade galleries.

The Walcha Historical Society is a not-for-profit organisation formed following a public meeting on the 6th April 1962 in that year, held in the Walcha Shire Offices. Tamborine Mountain has a compelling unique character that arises out of the rich and diverse heritage of the region. The Tamborine Mountain Heritage Centre is run by the Mountain's Historical Society and features a small historic village, offering a snapshot of the life of early settlers. Visitors can see the first church to be erected on the mountain. Called the Pioneer Hall it has been relocated within the centre's grounds. It contains various dioramas of the mountain's history as well as extensive displays of fashions from the early 1900s.
