German-born Dr Hampe is a fully Australian-trained specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and internal medicine. After completing his initial medical degree in 2004 at Germany’s oldest tertiary institution, Heidelberg University, he worked at the gastroenterology department of Heidelberg University Hospital, one of Europe’s largest medical centres. He then continued his specialist training at the Prince Charles and Princess Alexandra hospitals (Brisbane), Canberra Hospital, Gosford Hospital, and St George Hospital (Sydney). High-quality colonoscopy is Dr Hampe’s main interest. He has a high personal adenoma detection rate, which is associated with a decreased risk of subsequent bowel cancer. In addition to colonoscopies, Dr Hampe performs gastroscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, haemorrhoidal banding, oesophageal variceal banding, oesophageal dilatation and capsule endoscopies.
