Gary Nattrass is a Fellowship-trained, Melbourne based Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon. He has a special interest and expertise in Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) as well as Paediatric Hip Conditions (Hip Dysplasia, Perthes disease, SUFE). This is alongside his general upper and lower limb practice and also the management of neuromuscular disorders (cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy etc). He also offers pre-natal counselling for parents when an orthopaedic condition has been identified in-utero. Gary is originally from Canada. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Alberta before working in General Practice for six years in Los Angeles. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training at the University of Calgary, becoming a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), and then undertook Sub-Specialty Fellowship training at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital and also the Shriners Hospital for Children (UCLA) in Los Angeles. After joining the staff at the Shriners Hospital, Gary then returned to Melbourne taking up a staff position at The Royal Children’s Hospital, where he was part of the teaching program from 1995 to 2020. Gary continues with an honorary appointment to The Royal Children’s Hospital. Privately Gary operates at Cabrini Hospital in Malvern. With state of the art facilities and a dedicated Children’s unit with specialised paediatric staff, all procedures including Scoliosis and major Hip Dysplasia surgeries can be performed there.

Andrew is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in minimally invasive surgery of the hip (anterior and posterior approaches) and advanced technology knee surgery, and he has undertaken additional training in this sub-specialised area of surgery. The anterior hip surgical approach is a more challenging operation to perform in theatre, but offers patients a range of benefits, including a smaller scar, no cutting of muscles, less post-operative pain, faster mobilisation and hospital discharge, and quicker return to work. Advanced technology knee surgery (computer navigation, patient specific jigs and robotics) may also offer patients enhanced recovery and quicker discharge.
