Reflexology is based on the belief that certain parts of the body reflect the whole. Reflex points found in the hands, feet, face and ears respond to pressure, initiating the body's own healing process, which brings about balance. The reflex areas on the feet resemble all body parts, representing a miniature version of the body, with all body parts in a parallel arrangement. This miniature map is also apparent in the hands and ears. Along with these reflex points, pressure points are also incorporated into reflexology. Pressure points are points along energy channels in the body called meridians, which link organs and body parts. Reflexology is very beneficial to one's health, promoting appropriate functioning of body systems, thus, alleviating stress and disabling the �fight or flight� response which is a reaction to stress and anxiety. THE MERIDIAN THEORY The Chinese discovered that life force energy (energy which keeps us alive), which they call ch'i, runs along 12 energy channels which they call meridians.
