About
FAWNA is the only licensed volunteer group for rescue and rehabilitation of all wildlife species in the catchment area of this Taree LocalSearch directory. WIRES is not licensed to operate in this area and does not offer a person-answered 24/7 telephone wildlife rescue line. FAWNA works closely with colleagues at its sister group, Koalas in Care, based in Taree. Call 6581 4141 for all wildlife rescues. FAWNA's friendly phone operators are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether it is a kangaroo or wallaby harmed by a vehicle, a flying-fox caught in fruit netting or barbed wire, or a baby bird out of its nest, FAWNA will assist. These are just some of the many reasons wildlife - animals, birds and reptiles - need to come into the tender loving care of trained volunteers anywhere from Bulahdelah, west to Gloucester and up to the top of the Greater Taree area - FAWNA actually covers the whole of the Port Macquarie LocalSearch directory area as well, including the Kempsey and Port Macquarie-Hastings LGAs. The licensed area covers 18,000 square kilometers. FAWNA is always looking for new volunteers to help spread the workload and the group holds induction training courses, normally in Port Macquarie or Wauchope, in February, June and October each year. The membership application form can be downloaded from the FAWNA website - www.fawna.org.au. In the 2015 year, FAWNA volunteers handled over 3,000 animals, birds and reptiles with a good success rate of release back to the wild.
