About
Good Shepherd Village is a 42 unit Retirement Village Complex providing the elderly Mackay community with a trusted retirement community. So trusted in fact that Good Shepherd Lodge is celebrating 42 years this year in East Mackay. This complex is owned by Good Shepherd Lodge Ltd Trustee for Good Shepherd Lodge Charitable Trust. Stage 1 was officially opened in 1987 and was the first Retirement Village to be built in Mackay. The second stage known as Brampton Villa's initially opened in 1997 with a further 4 units being completed in December 2000. In 2011, 10 units were refurnished in Lindeman Lodge. They are very popular, being co-located within Good Shepherd Lodge Residential Aged Care complex. For this reason alone, the Good Shepherd Village can offer more services to its residents than the average retirement village. The Good Shepherd Village consists of 16 two bedroom units and 6 one bedroom units which are strategically placed to maximise the privacy of residents, and take advantage of the prevailing breezes. Brampton Villa's consist of 13 two bedroom units with private courtyards. Lindeman Lodge consists of 10 units - 7 two bedroom units with private courtyards and 3 one bedroom units. Residents are encouraged to maintain their community affiliations. They are more than welcome to join in any of the wide range of activities offered at the lodge. Not only do they find this entertaining but it also provides the opportunity for them to meet people and make new acquaintances. It is our aim that residents find a happy companionship where they can enjoy independence and privacy within a community lifestyle. Good Shepherd Lodge Residential Aged Care and Nursing Home offers supported living to family members who are unable to live independently. Good Shepherd Lodge is a 169 bed facility situated on the east side of Mackay in a residential area and is surrounded by beautiful well maintained grounds and gardens. All areas of the Lodge have undergone extensive upgrade to present a welcoming and attractive environment. With on-site cafe, hairdresser, chapel, children's playground and Therapy Centre, residents have access to a full range of services in a friendly, homelike atmosphere. In addition there is a fully furnished self contained family room available for family/friends visiting from out of town, which can be booked at a nominal rate to allow loved ones to spend quality time at the facility. Good Shepherd Lodge prides itself in having above 40% of fully government supported residents who would otherwise be unable to afford high quality accommodation. With a total of 6 activity officers available Monday to Friday and part of the weekend, an extensive range of activities are on offer including Tai Chi, Movies, Art and Craft. Residents may access allied health professionals and services through the Therapy Centre. With 2 buses owned and operated by Good Shepherd Lodge, there are a variety of opportunities to attend functions and activities within the general community, some of which may incur a fee. We welcome residents bringing with them items such as quilts, photo's, or a favourite chair to personalise their new home. With a reputation for excellence in care for over 42 years, Good Shepherd Lodge has recently completed a major refurbishment of 2 areas of its large complex, to accommodate residents requiring dementia specific care in a fully secure environment. With tactile walls, gardens, pets, and activity rooms for craft, a homely environment has been created with most rooms accessing a central courtyard and extensive secure gardens. All residents in care enjoy the privacy of their own ensuited room with each wing having their own lounge. An impressive mall with Cafe, Children's Playground, Hairdresser, Function Rooms, Chapel and Therapy Centre, it is a great all weather walking area, with seating along the way to catch up with passers-by or meet for a cup of tea or coffee in the light filled atrium. There is a great range of activities provided by the Diversional Therapists including Sitting Dance, Music Therapy, Movies, Bingo, Aromatherapy and Jewellery Making to name a few. The men are not forgotten either with specific outings planned and Good Shepherd's 2 buses at the ready to take them to a cricket match or a club for lunch. Staff strive to ensure that all our residents find Good Shepherd Lodge a place of happy companionship where security, independence and privacy within a community lifestyle can be enjoyed. Personal space is important and our aim is to ensure that residents feel at home and most importantly they are encouraged to continue being independent and enjoy having family and friends visit in our relaxed and beautiful environment. Our Retirement Living Village consisting of 42 units is positioned in landscaped grounds offering secure, independent living options for those looking for the experience of private living in a community atmosphere. With access to 24 hour emergency call system in every unit and onsite Cafe, Hairdresser, Chapel and Therapy Centre, village residents can continue to enjoy the pursuits that interest them in the wider community and also join in the many activities and benefits on site. For more Information or to book an appointment please call direct on 49 632972 SECURE DEMENTIA CARE Good Shepherd Lodge has been providing specialized dementia care, both in a specific secure unit as well as within the general residential care facility since its inception and has recently completed refurbishment of two "houses" especially designed to accommodate residents requiring dementia specific care in a fully secure environment. We believe that for a large proportion of ageing residents some form of dementia is quite common. Most are able to be cared for within the general high and low care environment with only minimal interventions required, which are "tailored" to suit the individual. Some, however will be required to have more specific care plans developed, where specialized staff, including diversional therapists, nursing and other allied health staff conduct activities and programs that are dementia specific. All areas have been designed to be dementia friendly, with tactile walls, gardens, pets, and activity rooms for craft. A homely environment has been the aim with all single, ensuited rooms accessing a central courtyard and extensive secure gardens. All rooms are specifically designed to incorporate modern technology to monitor residents without invading their privacy. Families are encouraged to visit and participate in activities and qualified staff are on hand to support them in coming to terms with a loved one's condition and behaviours. Residents are encouraged to participate in appropriate general activities such as chapel, singing, sitting dance, and bingo and where necessary are accompanied by staff from their area to avoid unnecessary confusion. Bus outings are provided weekly as all residents enjoy getting out and about within various areas of the community. WAVES HAIR SALON Contact Reception to make an appointment today.
