About
Coolalinga Doctors & Health Centre is a premier provider of medical services for Darwin residents. Our traditional family GP practice has been providing for women, children and men's health since 1991. At Coolalinga Doctors and Health Centre you can see either Dr. Erik Hauge, or you may want to visit with Dorte Petersen, our resident naturopath. Before starting his own family GP practice in 1991, Dr Erik Hauge, the principal doctor and founder of Coolalinga Doctors and Health Centre, has been practicing in Darwin and the rural area since 1982. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1970 and later added a Dip. Anesthesia to his qualifications. Dr. Hauge practiced in the United Kingdom, Norway, Canada and Papua New Guinea before making Darwin his home. Dorte Petersen gained her naturopathic degree in Germany and has been providing services in natural health from the Coolalinga Doctors & Health Centre for more than ten years. I believe Dr Hauge's clinic is the best kept secret in Darwin. He is a humble family doctor who has been around for a long time and has a wealth of experience. I always feel reassured after visiting him. His clinic is upbeat and interesting - and the receptionists are mature and friendly - nothing is too much trouble for the doctor or the receptionists. A truly rewarding experience for anyone who is sick of being a number in the medical clinics.

Doctor Naidoo has been the best doctor I have ever been to in Darwin. He takes time to listen and really cares about what you say, I felt he was not just filling out boxes in the computer. He gives excelent advice in when to see him again and it is clear with the diagnosis.

About
We are a GP surgery in Coolalinga providing services typical of any general practice for example consultation for minor ailments to chronic disease including various care plans but also minor surgery like skin cancer, ingrown toenail, cysts, surgical/ electrocautery/ cryotherapy removal of warts, removal of foreign body in eye, ear, skin etc. we also do work medical, worker's compensation certificate etc. We are not a bulk billing practice. While we do bulk bill that is solely at the discretion of ours i.e. doctor/ practice. While we are able to provide limited skin check we are unable to provide full skin check that requires specific provisions that we do not have at the moment. By limited skin check we mean skin lesions that you identify for check up by our doctor(s) and full skin check is where you do not have full knowledge of skin lesions you want to be checked and want our doctor(s) to check entire skin surface to identify any concerning lesions. Things that we do not want to do is taking new patients for various S8 drugs. These are by and large drugs with potential of abuse i.e addiction. A few examples are Valium, morphine, codeine, Xanax/ calma, endone, oxycontin, fentanyl etc. there are lot more. If you require any S8 drugs we are not the GP service you want to see. Centrelink certificate is another service that we are reluctant to provide. While we are happy to consider doing centrelink certificate for problems that we understand, typically patients already known to our doctor(s), please do not expect our doctor(s) to agree to do a centrelink certificate when he/ she knows very little about you and has very little factual information about your illness. If S8 medication or Centrelink certificates are not your requirement, we may be able to provide medical services you require. At this stage we are open Monday to Saturday. If S8 medication or Centrelink certificate are what you require we hope above information would save your time and effort.

Easy parking, have covid plan for the patients. All the receptionists are friendly. Doctors? You can have an appointment longer than usual just let the receptionist know. And the doctors don’t rush your consultation, they listen to you as patient. Most especially Dr Modak , a genuine doctor dedicated to his profession.

I saw Dr. Sajan Talreja this Saturday morning. He was delightful, attentive and professional. His thorough history and examination led quickly to a diagnosis and treatment plan for a relatively minor but persistent problem. Thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions For Finding Doctors & Medical Centres Near Herbert
How can I find a doctor near me in Herbert who specialises in my condition?
Localsearch is a tool you can use to find healthcare providers in Herbert, offering a way to identify doctors who may be able to treat your specific condition. Here’s a simplified approach to make your search more effective:
- Utilise Localsearch: Begin by browsing through the profiles of healthcare providers in Herbert available on Localsearch.
- Examine Available Information: While detailed reviews might not be available, you can often find basic information about practices, such as the types of services they offer and their areas of focus.
- Pay Attention to Practical Details: Information about the location, contact details and possibly the hours of operation can be crucial in deciding which provider might be the best fit for your needs.
- Reach Out for More Information: Use the contact information provided on Localsearch to inquire directly with the doctor’s office about their experience with your condition if it isn’t clearly stated online.
This approach helps you leverage Localsearch effectively, focusing on the available information and direct communication to find a healthcare provider suited to your needs.
What are the benefits of undergoing regular blood tests and procedures as recommended by my healthcare provider?
- Early Detection: Regular tests can detect problems before they become serious, allowing for earlier intervention.
- Monitoring Disease Progression: They help in tracking the progression of a disease, providing crucial information on how it’s affecting your body.
- Treatment Evaluation: Tests and procedures evaluate the effectiveness of current treatment plans, helping in making necessary adjustments.
- Preventive Care: They can identify risk factors for diseases, enabling preventive measures to avoid health issues in the future.
Undergoing recommended tests and procedures is a key component of managing your health proactively.
How can I find out the cost of tests, medications and procedures before my visit?
When it comes to understanding the costs associated with your healthcare:
- Direct Contact: Reach out directly to the doctors or medical centres in Herbert to inquire about the costs of tests, medications and any procedures you may require.
- Insurance Provider: Consult your insurance provider to understand what is covered under your plan and what out-of-pocket expenses you might expect.
- Medicare Information: If applicable, check Medicare benefits for certain tests and procedures to gauge what financial support you might receive.
- Ask About Payment Plans: Some providers offer payment plans or sliding scale fees based on income, which can make healthcare more affordable.
Taking these steps can help you manage the financial aspects of your healthcare more effectively.
What should I expect during my first visit to a new doctor’s office?
- Introduction: Your first visit will likely start with an introduction to the doctor and their staff.
- Medical History: You’ll discuss your medical history, including any past conditions, surgeries, or significant health events.
- Discuss Current Symptoms: The doctor will want to know about any symptoms you’re experiencing.
- Physical Examination: Expect a basic physical examination to assess your overall health.
- Medication Review: Be prepared to discuss any medications you’re currently taking, including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs and vitamins.
This initial appointment is your opportunity to build a rapport with your new doctor and set the stage for your ongoing healthcare.
How do I talk to my doctor about concerns with prescribed medications, such as potential side effects?
Open communication with your doctor about your medication concerns is crucial. Here’s how to approach it:
- Be Honest: Start by being open about the side effects you’re experiencing. Your healthcare provider needs this information to help you effectively.
- Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask about the potential side effects of any new medication. Understanding what to expect can help you manage or even prevent some side effects.
- Discuss Alternatives: If the side effects are problematic, discuss alternative medications or treatments. There may be other options that can provide relief without the adverse effects.
- Follow Up: If you decide to adjust your medication or dosage, make sure to follow up with your doctor to report on how the changes are working for you.
How can I effectively communicate with my healthcare provider about my symptoms?
Effectively communicating with your healthcare provider is essential for your care. Here are condensed strategies for a productive discussion about your symptoms:
- Prepare and Be Specific: Write down your symptoms, including details like onset, frequency, and triggers. Describe the nature of your pain or discomfort with as much specificity as you can.
- Don’t Withhold Information: Mention all symptoms, even if they seem unrelated or embarrassing, and discuss any health concerns or fears you have. Your healthcare provider needs the full picture to provide the best care.
- Ask Questions and Seek Clarifications: If something about your condition or treatment plan isn’t clear, ask for an explanation. It’s important that you fully understand your health situation.
- Update Your Healthcare Provider: Inform them about any changes in your symptoms or if you experience new ones after your appointment. This information might necessitate adjustments to your diagnosis or treatment.
These steps ensure that you and your healthcare provider have all the necessary information for an accurate assessment and an effective treatment plan.
Can lifestyle changes impact the effectiveness of my treatment?
Certainly, lifestyle changes can play a significant role in the effectiveness of your treatment. Here’s how:
- Diet and Nutrition: Eating a balanced diet can support your body’s healing processes and overall well-being.
- Physical Activity: Regular exercise can improve many aspects of health, from cardiovascular fitness to mental health.
- Alcohol and Smoking: Reducing alcohol consumption and quitting smoking can have profound health benefits and positively affect your treatment outcomes.
- Stress Management: Learning to manage stress through techniques like meditation, yoga, or therapy can improve your quality of life and potentially impact your health positively.
Integrating these lifestyle changes, with guidance from your healthcare professional, can enhance your treatment effectiveness and contribute to better health outcomes.
