Wunnamurra is situated 10 km’s south of Jerilderie in the Southern Riverina of New South Wales. We are on the Newell highway 300kms north of Melbourne and 650kms south west of Sydney. ​ ​Wunnamurra was first settled in the 1840’s and was originally a very large pastoral holding running Merino sheep on the flat Riverina plains. It was cut up many times, the last being in the 1950’s when irrigation was introduced and developed in the area. The property still has a number of buildings that were built around 1900 including brick shearers quarters, brick workers quarters, brick stable, and remnants of the homestead and outbuildings. The property still has large areas of natural Box, Boree trees and substantial areas of Bluebush and Nitre Goosefoot swamps. ​ We are a family business running a highly developed irrigation farm of 968 hectares drawing our water allocation from the Murray River through the privatised Murray Irrigation Limited system. Our paddocks are all laser levelled utilising flood irrigation, with full drainage and recycling of all water. ​ Our cropping programme consists of irrigated rice, wheat and canola and improved pastures of sub clover, lucerne and shaftal clover with rye grass. Our pastures are used for prime lamb production and opportunity hay sales. ​ Our Prime Lamb enterprise currently uses around 700 locally sourced Merino ewes featuring Woodpark and Willandra blood, shearing annually in February. We lamb in April/May for September over the hooks sales. This gives us valuable feedback on how our rams are performing. The entire drop of lambs are typically sold from mid-September to mid-October, usually aiming for minimum of 50kg liveweight, season depending. ​ The Wunnamurra Poll Dorset Stud was established in 1987 to breed rams for ourselves, however it was quickly recognised that to breed the correct type of sheep for the growing lamb industry we needed a reasonable sized flock. ​
