Phillips Cellars and Regional Wine Centre is situated in Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley, 2 hours drive from Melbourne. The business was established 1979 as a family owned company operated by the Phillips family. The Phillips family previously owned and operated the Hotel Australia in central Shepparton, for 35 years , then in 1979 purchased the property known as the Goulburn Valley Winery, situated at 52 Vaughan St Shepparton. It was here that wine was made until 1990. The business is now headed up by Paul Phillips who has a broad knowledge of wines and winemaking, he has previously conducted wine appreciation courses and is a member of local wine and food clubs. In 2004 the business included a Regional Wine Centre to display and promote over 50 local wineries from Echuca to Rutherglen and from Rutherglen up to Seymour. Our mission at the time of producing our first vintage in 1998 was to showcase the region’s capabilities, unique conditions, and history. Positioning ourselves as a small boutique winery in a region with an industry stigma to boot and large scale neighbours – we were often called crazy. On top of being the tiny winery in a region of giants, we designed and built a cellar door set in our vineyards for tourists and visitors to experience our Yarran way of life, connecting our story to our home. In a region that barely saw a wine tourist – again we we’re called crazy. Today we can confirm we are a little crazy but continue to strive for quality, approachability, and regional recognition with each vintage.
