We love Canberra. It runs through our veins. You'll catch us at GIO statdium watching the Raiders or the Brumbies every weekend. During the week we still run the only factory in the region manufacturing window furnishings while employing almost 80 staff and supporting local jobs and the economy as much as we can. Many of our team members have been working here with us for decades. Some for 30 or 40 years and we now also have the next generation of family members coming into the business. We could move our manufacturing interstate or overseas to increase profits, but we're a big believer in supporting our local communities, it's where our staff come from, it's who we are, and we like giving back. We've always been a family serving families, ever since we opened our doors in 1968. John Watson launched Watson Blinds & Awnings on Lyle Street with just one employee, Pauline Hoare. After selling and fitting blinds transported from Sydney for a few years, John brought his wife Pat on in 1975. With Pat working as a seamstress, the Watson family was able to manufacture their own high-quality blinds and curtains the start of an operation that's grown much larger but remains in-house today!

In 1988, we began manufacturing vertical blinds in a modest factory unit in Homebush NSW. Our “Cash & Carry” vertical blinds and our in-home measure & quote service was so popular that we soon needed larger premises, so we moved to the iconic pink building near Sydney Markets, Flemington. While there, we expanded our product range to include indoor roller blinds, venetians, timber blinds and awnings. In no time at all, we were opening showrooms in Canberra, Newcastle, Brisbane and Wollongong. After one more move, we opened our current head office and main showroom in Silverwater NSW.
