Does your vehicle have a valid Safety Certificate? If you purchased your vehicle in Queensland, it will have been sold to you with a valid Roadworthy Certificate (RWC), or Safety Certificate. Required by the government when a car is sold, Roadworthy & Safety Certificates Caboolture residents receive along with the vehicle's other paperwork are evidence that it has passed a number of important safety checks. If you bought privately, the RWC is only valid for the first two months (or 2000km) following the sale. For vehicles purchased from a dealer, the RWC is valid for the first three months (or 1000km). In some cases, it's possible for a mechanic operating out of an AIS to complete the necessary testing somewhere other than at the AIS. I am selling my car, do I need a new RWC? Yes! In Caboolture, all vehicles require a valid RWC before they can be sold. In addition, an RWC is also required in the following circumstances: a re-registration of a vehicle that was previously unregistered; a transfer of registration; or registering the vehicle in another state.
What's checked as part of the RWC? When you book your vehicle in for an RWC test, it's important to note that the inspection only covers basic safety features: your car or truck may still have significant performance problems (or even require repair before it will move), but can still pass the RWC test. The Safety test requires that vehicles meet basic safety standards with respect to the following features: brakes; windscreen; steering; bodywork; lights; suspension; and tyres. In the event that one or more of the features mentioned doesn't meet the required standard, vehicle owners are given 14 days to get the defective items replaced or repaired. Once the repairs have been completed, the vehicle needs to be returned to the inspector to show that the defects have been rectified before a certificate can be issued.
A Safety Certificate in Caboolture may be issued in a paper or electronic format. Each is equally valid as proof that the vehicle has a valid RWC.
