Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a self-winding and a manual-winding movement?
Watches can be wound in two different ways. Manual-winding watches must be wound by hand every day and self-winding watches are wound by an internal rotor which reacts to wrist movements. Generally, Self-winding watches will have a power reserve of around 2 days to keep time when the watch is not worn.
What causes watches to stop working?
A watch can stop for a few different reasons. If it's battery-operated, it can be due to a flat battery and that's easily fixed, on the spot. At Coastal Clocks & Watches we stock a wide range of batteries for all brands.
