I had only been to this pub once before it burnt down late last year. I live in the Tin Can Bay area and was so sad to hear this as it was a lovely old pub with a great atmosphere with the locals making you feel really welcome.
I even took a friend that had travelled up from Melbourne for a holiday, it burnt down the week before she arrived but we still went and had a drink and give some support, it was so sad to see.
The owners had set up a shed at the back of the pub and a few locals were there welcoming us with a smile. My husband and I thought it would be great to celebrate New Years Eve as they have a free campsite in town and there would be no concerns about having a few drinks and getting home.
We are so glad we did it, was a great night and again the locals made us feel very welcome. They also put on entertainment which had everyone going all night and fantastic roast pork rolls at a great price $6.
If you are ever out the back of Gympie go to Kandanga do drop in you won't be sorry. Put this on your to-do-list, I live an hour away and will be visiting here more often and so will many of my friends. I plan to take my caravan next time and stay the whole weekend at the free camp site.
