Lisa Whitty Doula

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. The word “Doula” comes from a Greek word that means “woman’s servant”, though over the years it has come to mean "to serve".

Scientific evidence has proven that doula care improves physical and psychological outcomes for both mother and baby. Doulas have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family. In the past women were cared for by other women during childbirth and childbirth usually happened at home; this was called continuous care.
