About Melanie Larsen Bowen Therapist
About Bowen Therapy Bowen Therapy is named after the Australian man who created the technique in the 1950's. With no formal bodywork training Tom Bowen created a series of gentle soft tissue moves performed on the body on specific muscles, joints, nerve points and tendons which were able to relieve his clients of pain and imbalance within a few short treatments. He began a part time clinic alongside his 9-5 job and this quickly grew into a full-time practice for him. He spent a long time working with a select few individuals who worked to help him document his work so his discoveries could be taught to others and so many more people could benefit from his amazing work. Bowtech was founded by one of these individuals in the late 1980's and now worldwide there are more than 26 000 people who have studied Bowtech; the Bowen Technique course. Bowen is a gentle Therapy suitable for infants to the elderly. It is powerful enough to provide not only a profound relaxation but to treat and provide relief for a wide variety of physical complaints from aches and pains in the muscles and joints through to headaches, respiratory, digestive and reproductive issues. Due to the relaxing nature of the treatment and the location of the Bowen moves, Bowen Therapy is also very effective at helping to address imbalance within ones emotional health too. Balance your Body with Bowen.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can benefit from Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a very gentle technique and as a result is suitable for infants through to the elderly. EVERY BODY needs Bowen!
How does Bowen Therapy work?
The therapist makes gentle cross fibre moves on the body predominantly across muscles but sometimes also ligaments, tendons and nerve bundles which sends messages to the brain via the nervous system telling the Body to “Rest and Reset”. Bowen Therapy focuses on changing the nervous system from the Flight or Fright mode (sympathetic) to the Rest and Repair Mode (parasympathetic).
