As a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, my role is to assist children to perform their "occupations" as independently as possible. Children "occupy" their time: playing; socialising / being a friend; going to school / being a student; performing self care tasks such as doing up buttons & shoelaces; and/or playing sport / enjoying their leisure time. Occupational Therapy develops the following skills, through play, to enable children to perform these occupations as independently as possible: * gross motor skills - posture, balance, co-ordination & motor planning skills * fine motor skills - manipulating small objects, drawing, scissor skills & eye-hand co-ordination * hand dominance & crossing midline * visual perceptual skills - visual memory, sequencing, letter reversals, etc. * handwriting - speed, fluency, legibility & technique * cognitive skills - problem solving skills, academic skills, etc. * attention / concentration * self regulation and sensory processing * self care skills - dressing, feeding, toileting, bathing, etc. * play skills - initiating play, engaging in play & imaginative play * social skills - turn taking, sharing, eye-contact, making friends, etc. With over 20 years experience as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, I specialise in working with children (and their families) with a variety of disorders or delays including: * Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD) * Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) * Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) * Developmental Delay * Dyspraxia * Genetic Conditions or Syndromes * Hypermobility * Learning Difficulties * Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) * Physical Disabilities - Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy * Sensory Processing Disorder Therapy can be conducted at my clinic, in your home or at the child's school.
