The Pilates Method of exercise was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. It was originally used as a rehabilitation program and was later found to be of great benefit to anyone seeking a higher level of fitness. The work was kept alive over the years by a Romana Kryzanowska (1923 - 2013): A close student of Joseph Pilates, Kryzanowska took over as director of Joseph Pilates studio a few years after he passed away. Romana was one of the most well known and highly regarded keepers of the classical Pilates tradition. Due to the popularity of Pilates, there are many different types with different styles of presenting the exercises. Inner Pilates teaches as Joe intended with knowledge passed down to us from his protégé Romana Kryzanowska. Pilates is a unique system of exercise specifically designed to strengthen and stretch the body, while improving co-ordination and control. Regular practice of The Pilates Method can have a dramatic effect on your overall wellbeing by toning, lengthening and strengthening the body and core muscles. The system was originally referred to as 'Contrology'. What is now commonly known as Pilates consists of specific movements which can be performed with or without equipment, When applied properly the Pilates method can improve flexibility, build strength and develop control and endurance in the whole body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing and developing a strong 'Powerhouse'. Intensity can be increased over time as the body becomes more conditioned and adapts to the exercises. One of the best things about the Pilates is that it works so well for a wide range of people. It is suitable for people of all body types and with varying levels of fitness. Whether you are an athlete, surfer, dancer, senior, post-natal woman, recovering from injury or just looking to improve your overall fitness level, the Pilates Method can be beneficial to you.

Union Fitness Personal Training offers one-on-one training and group fitness classes to people of all ages and abilities across the southern Gold Coast. Union Fitness Personal Training is owned and operated by Declan Scragg, a Bachelor of Medical Science and Certificate IV in Fitness graduate, who has played over 250 games of first grade rugby around Australia and has over 15 years of involvement in sport and fitness. ? Everyone needs to remain active for their own physical and mental health and at Union Fitness we provide One-on-One Personal Training for all types of people with a variety of goals and needs. These range from: Special Populations - For those that have special training requirements including those that are over 50, under 16, asthmatic, arthritic, osteoporotic, diabetic, pre-diabetic, obese, in rehabilitation, pregnant, have hypertension etc. Sports Specific - For team sportspeople and individual athletes who strive to perform at their full potential in fields such as rugby union/league, AFL, soccer, netball, surfing, lifesaving, rowing, athletics etc. General Population - For all those casual trainers in between who want to maintain their health and fitness in a fun and rewarding environment! We also run Group Fitness Classes at Wallace Nicoll Park, opposite Currumbin Alley and the big carpark at Currumbin Beach North. Classes are capped at 12 participants to ensure you are being closely supervised and assisted so bookings are essential. The classes available are: PunchFit - Partnered training (one person on gloves, one on punch pad/kick shield) which teaches you correct boxing and kicking technique in a safe and controlled environment. Perfect for weight loss, toning and aerobic conditioning . CrossTrain - Circuit training using a variety of equipment and exercises including kettlebells, battling ropes, dumbbells, suspension trainers, gym rings, resistance bands, fit balls, torsonator etc. Designed to increase lean muscle and reduce fat while increasing aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Both classes will give you a workout that makes you fitter, leaner and stronger in no time all while watching the sun rise or set!
