Starting at the top of the North Coast, we have the Northern Rivers region. Thanks to the amazing volcanic soils, the area is prime for growing some of the best fruits and vegetables. It’s so good, there’s even a Tropical Fruit World in Duranbah where you can try exotic fruits and veggies straight from the orchard. Once you’ve had your fill, head out to the lighthouse in Byron Bay, which stands guard to a short hike leading to the most Eastern Point of Australia.
Hop in the car and drive 3 hours south to the town of Coffs Harbour. Or, if you’re making the journey from further afield, the Coffs Harbour Airport is just 4km from the town centre. One of the best parts about Coffs Harbour is the diverse activities. Get the blood pumping with sky diving or a 4WD adventure, be amazed by abseiling and caving, take it easy with a horse ride or spa day, and of course, finish it all off with a trip to the Big Banana.
An hour and a half drive south of Coffs Harbour brings you to Port Macquarie. This area boasts 17 incredible beaches, amazing camping spots and bushwalks, and quaint towns filled with dairy farms and orchards. You can get in touch with marine life, such as dolphins, out on the water, or visit the Koala Hospital or the Billabong Zoo inland for more close encounters.
Wherever you go throughout the North Coast, you can take your pick of luxury resorts, farm stays, bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels, caravan parks or even by pitching a tent in one of the many amazing camping spots.
