About
Thomas was educated in Queensland and Victoria. He attended University High School in Parkville and graduated from Melbourne University Law School in 1980. Meanwhile, his commercial experience prior to commencing legal practice included, in the mid sixties, working in advertising agencies over a two year period, and also during the sixties, playing keyboards, bass and guitar as a recording and performing artist in two successful bands (the records actually charted!), working in sales and marketing for a high fashion textile printing company in Melbourne's Flinders Lane; in the early seventies, market research for the Irish Export Board and South African Trade Commission over a period of three and a half years; and a three year stint in the furniture and menswear buying offices of Myer Southern Stores Ltd, covering stores throughout Victoria and Tasmania. In 1980 Thomas was employed by prominent Melbourne law firm Weigall & Crowther, now Norton Rose. He became a partner in 1986. Having been born in Cairns, he returned in 1988 and shortly afterwards commenced his own law firm of Thomas Stevens and Company employing Stephen O'Reilly in 1997. In 2000 the original partnership of O'Reilly & Stevens Lawyers emerged and exists today as O'Reilly Stevens Lawyers. Thomas describes himself as a general practitioner, however, his preferred areas of practice are definitely in the commercial sphere. He specialises in industrial and intellectual property. His clients include publishers, recording companies, writers and performing artists, advertising agencies, marketing consultants, adventure tourism companies and hotel operators. Thomas's extracurricular activities include cooking, travel, gardening and golf.

He attended Queensland Institute of Technology (now QUT) graduating in 1982. Upon admission as a solicitor, Dale returned to Cairns in 1984 and shortly thereafter began his own firm. In 1998, Dale joined Williams Graham and Carmen and headed up their local government and town planning section. He joined O'Reilly Stevens in June 2020. Dale was sworn in as a notary public in 1996 and continues to develop a thriving notarial practice. Dale describes himself as a broadly experienced commercial and property development lawyer, but with particular emphasis on:- Construction law (commercial and residential) Property development (including town planning, land subdivision, unit developments and resorts development) Body corporate (including management rights and serviced strata-schemes) Commercial conveyancing Leasing (including state tenure and native title) Commercial litigation Franchising Dale also has a wide range of interests. He is a self-confessed AFL tragic, who played football until the ripe-young age of 55 and hasn't yet given up on the prospects of a come-back. He has recently acquired a passion for carpentry and landscaping and even drives a ute complete with timber racks. Dale has been actively involved in the performing arts in Cairns over many years but readily admits to being the lesser light in his family, falling well short of the talents of his wife, son and daughter (who are actually talented).
